Herbert Johnson Dies at 82 Years

Services for Herbert Johnson, 82, of Britt, who died Friday at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 18, at the Cataldo Funeral Home with Rev. J. Larry Vallery as officiant. Mrs. Dean Cataldo served as organist and soloist. Casketbearers were: Bill Mattoon, Rick Mattoon, Wayne Eckels, Bill Eckels, Ron Brooks and Jerry Weiner. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Britt. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt.

Herbert Leslie Johnson, the son of John and Annie (Baker) Johnson, was born July 11, 1902 on a farm near Britt. After attending school in Bingham Township, he farmed in the Britt and Woden areas until 1940. December 13, 1924 he married Mertie Dexter at Ventura. In 1940 they moved to Hutchins where he operated a trucking service until his retirement in 1964. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He was a member of the Britt Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Mertie, of Britt; his son, John and his wife, Ardis, of Britt; two grandchildren, John Jr. of Forest City and Mary Lou of Britt; three brothers, Frank and his wife, Mabel, of Britt, Homer and his wife, Ruth of Mason City and Gilbert and his wife, Dorothy, of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Marcella Johnson of Britt and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clyde, who died in November of 1975.

BRITT: Retired farmer and trucking service operator Herbert Johnson, 82, of Britt, died Friday (Feb. 15, 1985) at the Britt hospital.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery of the United Methodist Church, Britt, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Britt.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson was the son of John and Annie (Baker) Johnson, born July 11, 1902 on a farm near Britt.
