VERNER LLEWELLYN LEWIS - 1893-1962
Born November 9, 1893, passed away, 9:30 A. M., Saturday, September 15, 1962, at Veterans Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Age 69.
Born to Blanche F. and Llewellyn C. P. Lewis, a pioneer Klemme family, he spent his childhood and attended both grade and high school in the Klemme area.
On May 21, 1918 at the age of 21 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. During his enlistment he served with the Atlantic Fleet aboard the Battleship Arkansas. Released a year later at the end of World War I he returned home. On May 26, 1920, he was married to Lena Coobs. After the wedding the new family moved to Hayfield, Minnesota, where they lived for four years. In 1924 they returned to the Klemme area where they remained and raised a family of four children.
He is a member of the American Legion, Adam - Schaefer Post at Klemme.
He leaves to mourn him: his wife, Lena; sons, Glen of Santa Rosa, California, and Laverne of Downey, California; daughters, Evelyn of Oakland, California and Luella of Balaton, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Holly of San Diego, California and Charles of Long Beach, California. He also leaves nieces and nephews and many friends.
