Taken from an unknown newspaper clippingJohn Wise funeral set for Tuesday – The funeral for John Mack Wise, 74, former fruit market operator in Mason City, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Blake Funeral Home, Wesley. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Britt. Friends may call at the chapel until the time of services.
Mr. Wise died Saturday at Sexton, following a heart attack. He was born December 25, 1891 in Oklahoma, son of G.B. and Sarah Ann (McSwain) Wise, in 1910 he moved with his family to McClean, IL, where he attended school and grew to manhood.
He moved to Iowa in 1915 with his family and engaged in farming in the North Iowa area. He was married to Gertrude DeVary, January 7, 1926 at Emmetsburg. In 1941 he moved his family to Mason City, where he operated a fruit market on South Federal.
His wife Gertrude died in 1946 and he continued to operate the fruit market until 1950. At that time he moved to Sexton, where he operated Mack’s Market.
Mr. Wise was married to Metta Culbertson, January 17, 1955, in Mason City.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Frank Brodus Wise and James Lloyd Wise, both of Mason City, and four grandchildren, Todd, Terry, Timothy and Tina Wise. Two brothers, W.S. Wise, Mason City, and Herman Wise, Corwith, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Dovie) Stratton, Denver, CO; Dorothy Dammarell, Chicago, IL and Nell Opheim, Sexton, also survive.
His first wife, Gertrude, one son in infancy, two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Wise was a member of the Doan Methodist Church.
