Per a fellow researcher, on 20 Mar 1876, Margaret Elizabeth McCalmont Koehler married Dr. Harvey Newton Crapper in Webster City, Hamilton, IA. Margaret McCalmont (b. 9 Nov 1841) had previously married my great-grand-uncle, Charles C. Koehler in Venango Co, PA, Margaret's birthplace. Together, Charles and Margaret were reported to have 4 daughters, Penelope, Margaret, Sarah L., and Catherine W. Koehler. Birth dates of the girls have not been found. Dr. Crapper reportedly died in or after 1881, probably in California with his mother. A newspaper article indicated that Margaret and her daughters returned to Webster City after his death to settle his estate.
For years I have been searching for Charles. In one source, he and Margaret were reported to have made their home in Umatilla Co, OR. Searching for him there has provided no evidence of Charles. Evidence of (1) Margaret Koehler (mother or daughter?) has been found in Umatilla Co. in 1883 and 1887. Also Margaret can be found with two daughters in Portland, OR in 1888 and Margaret can be found near Spokane, Wa in 1909 and 1920. Further details are available.
Does a marriage license exist in Webster City for Margaret and Harvey Crapper? If so, does the license indicate Margaret is widowed or divorced?
In the estate documents for Harvey Crapper are the names of his daughters identified? Did Dr. Crapper adopt Margaret's daughters from the previous marriage? Did they have any children of their own?
Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide!
