This Benjamin House married before Mary Smart, in New York probably, Janett Adams. They had children: Julia Ann Josephine "Queen Victoria" Van House; Peter VanHouse; Feebie House; Charlotte J. "Lottie" Van House (my great grandmother); and I believe William House. Family legend from the Van House siblings indicate they lived in Canada at one time, which might explain why I can't find them in U.S. census in 1870. Various legends about the family. It could be the Van House stepchildren added the "Van" as no indication of any records previous to that with spelling "Van House". They lived in 1860 in Osceola, Lewis Co., New York. There was a Benjamin House son of Hezekial House and Alice Loomis. Benj. House in 1885 is living next to the Loomis family, though Hezekiah's son was said to marry someone else. So perhaps a cousin? (Just speculation)
