There are at least two separate Loban families (probably more) One from Russia - Belarus- etc.
Who I am told are Jewish. And my family who are highland Scots and not Jewish. I am told Loban means boss in Chinese and is close to the word for praise in German. It is a form of incense in some muslim areas in India and pakistan etc.
