OBITUARY
Last Sunday morning, Feb. 4, the grim messenger of death came to summon from our midst a face that has been familiar in Jewell for the past 19 years.
As announced in last week's Record the condition of F. W. Headley at that time had reached a point where doubts as to his recovery were expressed by a few, but not until Saturday evening did the physicians give up hope of being able to relieve him and told him so. While he suffered great bodily pain his mind was perfectly clear and his speech rational until almost the last. He called his boys one by one to his side and gave them such advice as he desired to offer and bade numerous old friends that called to see him a last farewell.
Frank W. Headley was born in Greenly Co., Wis., on Jan. 30, 1855. With his father and family he moved from there to Minnesota and thereafter to Homer, Iowa, at which place his father died. From Homer he removed to Stratford, Iowa, where he met with a serious misfortune in the loss of his wife. Three sons were born to them of whom two survive and are now living in Jewell. About 19 years ago he came to Jewell where he has since resided. Fifteen years ago he was united again in marriage to Miss Maggie Montgomery and four years ago the 15th of last December was again called upon to lay to rest this his beloved wife.
Frank certainly had his share of trouble, but bore it uncomplainingly. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father, possessing a cheerful disposition and a heart susceptive of much good, always ready to aid in alleviating distress in fellowman. While not professing christianity, he died with the belief that he wronged no man which seemed to be of great help to him in the last hours of his earthly existence. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church by Rev. Faus, on Monday, at 1:30 o'clock and the remains laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery by the Masonic brethren according to the sacred rites prescribed by the laws of that ancient fraternity.
CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to publicly thank the many kind friends who so graciously cared for our beloved father during his sickness, and for the many acts of assistance and sympathy granted us in the performance of the last sad rites of his funeral. Especially do we thank the A. F. & A. M. and the ladies of the O. E. S. for the expressions of respect and condolence all of which lightens the burden and lends comfort to us. May God bless you.
PERRY AND EMERY HEADLEY.
