From Jewell Record October 3, 1912 (page 4)

Mrs. J. H. Cochran is Dead

The people of Jewell and its vicinity were shocked Monday afternoon to learn of the sudden and wholly unexpected death of Mrs. J. H. Cochran, which occurred at three minutes after one o'clock Monday afternoon. Mrs. Cochran had been sick only since mid-afternoon Saturday and but few were even aware of her illness. Death resulted from intestinal obstruction. The funeral services will be held at two o'clock this afternoon from the home, conducted by Rev. C. J. Eastvold, and the body will be laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery.

Maggie A. Whitinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Whitinger, was born in Hamilton county, Indiana, July 10, 1868, and died in Jewell September 30, 1912, aged 44 years, 2 months and 20 days. With her parents she came to Iowa while a child, locating in Story county near the inland town of Iowa Center, north of Maxwell. A few years later the family moved to Jewell residing on a farm northeast of town. She was married to John H. Cochran October 27, 1889. One child was born to this union, which died in infancy. Eleven years ago Mr. Cochran and his wife moved to Jewell where they have since resided. Besides the husband, she is survived by her father, Mr. W. H. Whitinger of Jewell, and one sister, Mrs. A. L. Olmstead of Forman, N. Dak.

A host of friends in Jewell and vicinity sincerely regret her loss and all will join the Record in extending their deep and heart-felt sympathy to the sorrowing husband and other relatives in their bereavement.
