From Story City Herald July 16, 1931 (page 3)

THE LATE EMIL HOVE [SIC] BORN IN HAMILTON CO.

Peter Emanuel Hove was born near Stanhope, Iowa, May 13, 1884. When he was about two years old death claimed his mother. The father was left to care for nine motherless children, of whom Amel was the baby. In the early summer of 1893 Amel and his brothers and sisters again stood by an open grave. This time it was the father, and Amel was a mere boy of 9 years.

In 1903 Amel and his brother, Eric, began farming the old home farm. This partnership continued for about 13 years. Amel then bought the farm where he has since resided.

On May 1, 1924, he was married to Gertrude Ellsworth. This union was blessed with two children Elizabeth and Charles.*

Amel was a member of the St. Paul's church and had always taken an active and leading part in the church work. He has served as secretary for the congregation for years. He had been extremely interested in the Sunday school work, having served repeatedly as superintendent and teacher of the Boys' Bible class, and in spit of failing health he faithfully carried on his duties.

Amel, though not very robust, enjoyed fairly good health. However, within the last few months it became evident that his health was beginning to crumble and June 28th, at late afternoon, he closed his life's day. He was a little over 47 years of age. His widow and two children are left to mourn the departure of a dear husband and father. One sister and four brothers are mourning the departure of a brother. They are Peter and Eric of Stanhope, John of Story City, and Charley Hove and Mrs. Hans Oppedal of Jewell.

The funeral services were held at St. Paul's church Tuesday, June 30, Rev. Carl Opsahl of Jewell officiating. The Lake Center male octet sang, "Beautiful Savior, Pilot Me," and "Asleep in Jesus." The floral offerings were beautiful and $10 was given as a memorial by Amel's brothers and sisters to missions, $5 to the Bible class in the Sunday school and $6 to missions by Mrs. Jacobs, Mrs. Erdahl and Mrs. Hans Jacobs. Interment was made in Lake Center cemetery. Pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased, Palmer and Harold Hove of Bricelyn, Minn., Haldor HGove of Story City, Leslie Hove, Clarence Hove and Andus Hove.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: A third child Amel Gordon Hove was born 10 July 1931 in Clear Lake Township, Hamilton County, Iowa. Since he was only 6 days old at the time of this writing, I assume the writer did not know of him.
