OBITUARY

Mrs. Bertha Rando

Mrs. Bertha Helen Rando was born at Okland, Sveen, Norway, August 19, 1865, and died at Randall, Iowa, August 21, 1922 at the age of 57 years.

With her parents she came to America in 1883; she was then 18 years old. In 1887, the 9th of September she was united in marriage to Mikkel Rando. To this union five children were born.

Sept. 29, 1895, her husband died leaver her with five small children and a stepdaughter. Shortly afterward she lost two of her children, Martin 6 years, and Sarah 2 years old. It was not an easy task thus to be left alone to fight the battle of life, but with her courage and strength she succeeded in the caretaking of her children and farm.

In 1914 she sold her farm near Randall and moved into town, having erected a beautiful dwelling. About seven years ago her health began to fail and at times she was very ill.

Months ago she felt too weak to take care of her home and so moved to her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, where she received good care to the last.

She realized for a long time that the sickness she had would in a short time bring her face to face with her God, in whom she found comfort and peace for her soul. She suffered patiently and her end came peacefully.

She leaves to mourn her loss 3 daughters and a step-daughter, namely Mrs. Julia Larson of Jewell, Mrs. Helen Henderson [should be Hendrickson] and Mrs. Maggie Larson of Randall and Lizzie Rando of Story City. Also a brother, J. Jacobson of Randall and 7 grand children.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the home and at 2 o'clock at Elim's church at Randall, conducted by Rev. Paulsrud. The body was laid to rest in Mount Olive cemetery.
