ENDRE BRALAND

Endre Braland was born on a little farm home called Braland in Hjelmeland, Norway, November 8, 1853, and died April 15, 1922, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 7 days.

He came to America with his parents (Elling and Britta Braland) in 1855. The family came to Ottawa, Ill., where they stayed for one year. The family at that time consisted of Ole, Thomas, Betsey, Aasa and Endre.

The family moved from Ottawa to Benton county, Iowa, where they lived for one year. In 1857 they bought a farm in Hamilton county a mile and a half east of Randall. In this neighborhood Endre has lived all his life.

In 1875, the 17th of March, he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Martha M. Ponsness. To this union 14 children were born. Five children have preceded him to the great beyond--a pair of twins in their infancy and three sons after they were grown up. All the children were present to pay their last respects and are as follows: Lewis and Otis of Story City, Mrs. Ivar Sampson of Roland, Mrs. Geo. Holt of Ellsworth, Mrs. Bennie Knutson, Mrs. Joe Johnson, Mrs. Sigurd Twedt, Mrs. Oscar Johnson and Jonas Braland, all of Armstrong.

He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife and children names above, and 28 grandchildren, two brothers--Thomas and Andrias Braland--together with a host of intimate friends and acquaintances.

Endre Bratland was confirmed by Rev. Nils Amlund and was always a member of the Lutheran church.

During his last sickness his wife and children nursed him with great tenderness and love. His greatest joy was that he had found peace with his Saviour. It was great encouragement for us who are still on the way, to hear Endre profess the name of Christ and to hear him urge us to come.

Funeral was held Tuesday, April 18, at 2 o'clock p.m. from N. St. Petri church, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. A large concourse of people had gathered to pay their last respects to their old time friend and neighbor. Interment took place on the family lot in Mamrelund cemetery.

"An old neighbor,"
