Cecelia Jacobson

Cecelia Jacobson, maiden name Danielson, was born in Nerstrand, Norway, April 29, 1831. She came to America in 1858 and stayed at Leland, Ill., that first year. In 1859 she married Lars Jacobson, which whom she moved to New Sharon, Iowa and located on a farm near that place. In 1875 they came to Hamilton county and lived on the farm 7 miles west of Story City until Mr. Jacobson's death in 1896. In the spring of 1897 she made her home at Jewell until four years ago, when, on account of old age she came to Story City to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Overland-Johnson, remaining with her til her death. Her death occurred on Tuesday, May 21. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Heimarck assisted by Rev. Paulsrud, on Saturday, May 25, in the Immanuel church at Story City. Interment took place at the Macphelah cemetery [Ellsworth Clear Lake Cemetery], seven miles west of Story City, Rev. Heimarck also officiating at the grave.

She leaves to mourn her death seven children John L. Jacobson of Newport, Wash., Mrs. Caroline Thompson of Marshalltown, Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Story City, Swen L. Jacobson of Beresford, S. D. and James C. Jacobson of Seattle, Wash. She also leaves 18 grand-children and 12 great-grand-children and a number of other relatives in this country and Norway.

Mrs. Jacobson reached the age of 87 years and 22 days. The later years of her life both hearing and eyesight failed her very much and the last year she was totally blind. The last four months she was confined to her bed and suffered considerably, especially the last few weeks. She has now gone to her rest. She was a Christian woman, who through life's joys and sorrows testified of that hope which is begotten of the faith in Jesus as Saviour.
