DEATH CALLS AGED PIONEER

Hans Peterson Heeds Final Summons At the Advance Age of 87

Hans H. Peterson died at his home in the north part of town Saturday morning, June 20. He had not been strong for some time past, but death was due mostly to old age. The funeral was held from the St. Petri church yesterday, and interment took place at Mamrelund*.

The deceased was an affable gentleman, well liked by neighbors and friends generally. He was born in Sande, Norway, Dec. 27, 1821, making him 86 1/1 years old at the time of his death. He came to this country in 1849, stopping in Grundy county until 1852, when he joined the gold rush for California. He drove an ox-team from Illinois to the far western gold fields.

He returned to Illinois in 1855, and came to Iowa in 1857. He was married to Turina Peterson in 1859. To this union were born ten children, six of whom are still living. His first wife died in 1885, and he was married the year after to Synova Peterson, who survives to mourn his death.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Hans Pederson is buried in the Boe Cemetery, Ellsworth, Hamilton County, Iowa, not Mamrelund Cemetery as stated.
