Death of Chas. Davis

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon from the M. E. church for Charley Davis, who died late Monday afternoon, May 13. Rev. G. H. Dick, assisted by Rev. Carl Schmidt, were in charge of the services at the church and Rev. Lane was in charge of the services held at the home. Music was furnished by and mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. E. J. Johnson, Mrs. Wm. Johnson, Elmer Malmberg and L. Q. Dick. Pall bearers were Frank Bockwaldt, John Whalen, W. R. East, U. S. G. Kent, A. P. Peterson and Andrew Hill. Interment was made in the Stanhope cemetery.

Following is the life sketch of Mr. Davis:
Charles Davis, the son of Samuel and Mary Davis, was born in Janesville, Wis., October 25, 1858, and departed this life on May 13, 1929, being 70 years, 6 months and 18 days of age.

At 19 years of age he came to Iowa, spending two years in South Dakota, then he returned to Iowa.

March 13, 1887, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth McFarland. To this union was born 11 children, all of whom are living and were at his bedside when he passed away.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis have lived 37 of their 42 years of married life on the farm where they were residing at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and children, Mrs. C. H. Toppenberg of Jewell, Roy, Earl, Frank, Furman, Charles, Clare and Irene of Stanhope, Mrs. C. D. Manley of Des Moines, Mrs. Archi Amundson of Radcliffe and Mrs. L. G. Dick of Oakland; three sisters: Mrs. Clara Pierce of California, Mrs. Mollie Nickerson of Wyoming and Mrs. Alice McFarland of Sioux City; three brothers, Frank of Springfield, Mo., Joe and Harry of Stanhope; and many other relative and host of friends.

He was a true father, his whole thought was for his family and their welfare. He was always at home and will be greatly missed.
