Tollak Johnson

Tollak Johnson passed away Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the home of his son Henry Johnson, one mile east of Randall, following a lingering illness followed by a stroke of paralysis. He was born July 8th, 1861 [sic], at Shardojna, Norway, and died on the 21st day of August, 1925, having reached the age of 74 years, 1 month and 14 days. He was the son of Johannes and Martha Johnson of Shardoina, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage to Miss Helga Larson in 1879. To this union 11 children were born, namely, Mrs. Nels Oakland of Kiester, Minn.; Mrs. T. Thompson of Albert Lea, Minn.; John of Roland; Henry of Randall; Mrs. R. O. Braland, Randall; Lewis of Roland; Mrs. Ed Challe of Jewell; Mrs. Clarence Erickson of Radcliffe; Mrs. Herbert Anton of Radcliffe, Clarence of Pemberton, Minn.; and Ben Benson, deceased. His wife died in 1914.

He came to America with his family in the year 1881 and the same year located in this community. They made their home on a farm west of town. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church west of Randall. He was a faithful reader of the Bible and a kind and loving father to his children. He was a patient sufferer. He received the best of care from his children and death came as a welcome relief from his pain and suffering. Funeral services were held Monday, August 24 at one o'clock at the house and at two o'clock at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Hans Oppedal. He leaves to mourn his departure his children and one brother and two sisters in Norway.

Many friends and relatives were gathered at the last sad rites and beautiful floral offerings adorned the casket. The deepest heartfelt sympathy of this vicinity is extended to the bereaved children in their sorrow.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Nels Okland and children of Kiester, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Thompson and child of Albert Lea, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. John and Lewis Johnson and family of Roland, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Challe of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Anton, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Erickson of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson and child of Pemberton, Minn.
