Death of John P. Holt

Mr. John P. Holt passed away at his home in Jewell Saturday, March 22, after being ill for some months past with paralysis, caused from a tumor of the spinal cord. He had been taken to Iowa City for treatment, and had returned to his home here only three days before his death. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Iver Iverson, Tuesday, Mar. 25. Interment was made in the Rose Grove cemetery.

John P. Holt was born in Norway, February 2, 1856, and was baptized and confirmed in a Lutheran church in Norway. He came to America when 18 years of age and settled in Leland, Ill. After 7 years he moved to Rose Grove, with his parents. He continued to live on the farm in Rose Grove until 1911, at which time he moved to Jewell, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Miss Olene Todnem of Rose Grove in 1884 and to this union four children were born, of whom two survive--Marcelius and George, of Rose Grove. He is survived also by nine grandchildren.

He was the fourth of a family of ten boys, of which four survive: Marcelius of Orland, Calif., and Bardenis, Albert and Peter of Ellsworth, Iowa.

The deceased was a faithful member of his church. At the time of his death he was 68 years, 1 month and 20 days old. The deepest sympathy is extended to the sorrowing relatives.
