Daryl D. Hemken,76, of Williams died on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at his home. A memorial service was held at the Webster City Church of Christ, with Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. Interment will be held at the Williams Cemetery prior to the memorial service.

Daryl Duane, son of Frank and Gladys (Blake) Hemken was born on April 19, 1929 in Webster City. He graduated in Agriculture from Iowa State University in 1953. On August 15, 1954, he married Ann Ruby in Williams, and they farmed near Blairsburg. They moved to Williams in 1962 where he farmed until retirement in 1994. He served in the Reserve Forces of the US Army for 34 years as a Battery Commander, Battalion Commander, and Deputy Brigade Commander. He retired in 1982 with the rank of Colonel.

He was a member of the Webster City Church of Christ as well as the Williams Lions Club.

Mr. Hemken is survived by his wife, Ann; four sons and daughters-in-laws, Peter (Pamela) of Hockessin, Delaware, John (Kathleen) of Manitowoc, WI, Steven (Carrie) of Alden, and Phillip (Ann) of Pleasant Prairie, WI; a daughter, Jennifer of Chicago; fifteen granchildren, two sisters, Eloise Stearns of Webster City, and Joanna Magnussen of Newburgh, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elwyn; and a sister, Ardith in infancy.
