Services for Swen Swenson Held At Elim Lutheran

Funeral services for Swen E. Swenson were held in Elim Lutheran Church at Randall on Tuesday, November 5, at 2 p.m. Pastor Quentin Quanbeck officiated. Vocalists were Joel Ose and Kenneth Peterson. Mrs. Ole Sapeland accompanied them at the organ.

Casketbearers were Hiram Anderson, Omer Westre, Irvin Lund, Lars Kalvik, Orville Olson and Bert Stensland. Burial was at Mount Olivet cemetery near Randall.


Swen Swenson, son of Edwin and Martha Swenson, was born at Ellsworth on September 28, 1872. He died at the Story City Memorial Hospital on November 2 at the age of 91 years and one month.

He was confirmed by the Rev. Amlund in the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City in 1886.

In March, 1897, he was married to Julia Odson. To this union 10 children were born. During the first year of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Swenson worked for his uncle, Edwin Olson, west of Randall and then farmed for several years in that community. From there they moved to his father's farm northeast of Randall. In 1906 he bought a farm west of Randall where the family lived until he retired in 1942 moving to Story City where he has since lived.

His wife and son, Benjamin, preceded him in death.

He is survived by three sons and six daughters, Hallie Swenson of Jewell, Sherman and Reuben Swenson of Jewell, Mrs. I. G. (Ina) Larson of Ames, Mrs. Sherman I. (Mable) Larson, Mrs. Herman (Dora) Haugland and Josie, Sylvina and Rose Swenson, all of Story City; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Sam (Sarah) Jacobson and three brothers, Ole, Martin and Oscar, all of Story City.
