Ross F. Carpenter, 51, manager of the Bowman Shoe store in Boone and a former Webster City resident, died suddenly Thursday evening at 9:45 at the Boone county hospital. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Edwin Frohardt of Boone officiating. Preceding the Webster City services, rites will be held at 10 a.m. at the Schroeder funeral home in Boone. Burial will be made in Webster City.
The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until noon Saturday when it will be taken to the Schroeder funeral home.
Ross F. Carpenter, son of Joseph and Susan [Conroy] Carpenter, was born March 9, 1908 on a farm in Wright county near Woolstock. He received his elementary schooling in the Woolstock schools and completed his education in the Webster City schools.
He was united in marriage June 22, 1930 to Dorothy Brewer at Webster City. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter made their home in Webster City for several years, Mr. Carpenter being employed at the J.C. Penney store. In 1941, the family moved to Boone where he was associated with the C.E. McNeil Clothing Co. For the past five years, he had been manager of the Bowman Shoe store.
Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carpenter of Minneapolis; a granddaughter, Kim Marie Carpenter; and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Woodruff of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
Mr. Carpenter was active in many community affairs at Boone. He was a member of the First Methodist church, the Boone Kiwanis club and the Chamber of Commerce.
