Thursday, September 23, 1948Charles J. DeFrance, 80, died at 5 o'clock this morning at the Hamilton county hospital where he had been a patient the past week. He had been in poor health several years.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Foster funeral home, with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Charles J. DeFrance, son of Daniel C. and Mary [Moyer] DeFrance, was born Dec. 2, 1867 on a farm in Tama county, Iowa. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to Hamilton county to a farm near Homer. After living there several years, the family moved to Webster City.
He married Minnie Bruseau in 1887, and the couple started housekeeping on a farm south of Webster City where they resided for ten years. They then moved to Williams where he owned and operated a meat market. In 1900 they moved to Webster City and this had been his home since. He engaged in the meat market business here for many years.
Mrs. DeFrance preceded him in death in 1931. Also preceding him in death were his sons, Lloyd and Leon, and his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by one son, Harold, of Des Moines, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. L.E. Kimmel of Webster City; Mrs. Mattie Vance of Fort Dodge; George F. DeFrance of Long Beach, Calif.; Sam DeFrance of Laurel, Mont. and Cyrus H. DeFrance of Barrett, Minn.
