Florence's father was a farmer and both her parents were born in Pennsylvania. Florence was born and raised in Tama County, Iowa. There, in 1878, at the age of 19, Florence married 34 year old Adam Wilhelm.

They farmed for a while in Boone, Hamilton County, Iowa. In 1881 December they had a son they named Elmer. He lived only a day and was buried at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer, Tama County, Iowa. In 1889 Adam and Florence had another son, Roy Edward.

In the early 1890's they moved to Wright County, Iowa. In 1920 Florence died at the age of 61. She was buried at Graceland Cemetery. Adam died Nov. 21, 1927 at the age of 83 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was buried next to Florence.
