James A. Staley, 81, of Marshalltown, a former Webster City resident, died Friday morning, March 10 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he had been a resident for three weeks. He had been in failing health the past three years.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Ripley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. There will be a graveside flag folding service by American Legion Post 191.

Friends may call at Foster Funeral Home until the time of service.

James Andrew Staley, son of Andrew and Emma Lytton Staley, was born Jan. 16, 1908 at Anchor, Ill. He attended Webster City schools.

On July 17, 1941 he married Alma Bailey at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City.

During World War II, he spent 30 months in the U.S. Army as a truck driver.

He had been employed at United Coop in Webster City, retiring in 1973.

Survivors include his wife; seven daughters, Judith (Mrs. Deane) Haack of Eugene, Ore., Janice Payne of Webster City, Janey (Mrs. Ted) Dunn of Blairsburg, Jolene (Mrs. Curt) Dammen of Starkweather, N.D., Joyce (Mrs. John) Mischel of Ankeny, Juanita Staley of Webster City and Jone (Mrs. Miles) Golly of Des Moines; one son, Jerry Staley of Webster City; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, one brother and two sisters.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of American Legion Post 191.
