Donald Harold Hanus, 65, Eagle Grove, formerly of Webster City, died Aug. 19, 1992 at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Services were held Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove, Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Harold Hanus, son of August and Ethel (Johnson) Hanus was born April 5, 1927 near Woolstock. He received his education in rural school near Woolstock and also attended the Webster City School system.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18. During his tour of duty, he was stationed in Japan where he attended administrative clerical school in Tokyo for eight weeks. He received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal.

On March 1, 1948 he married Marie Kepler at Webster City. He was employed with Millard Hurt Construction of Woolstock and later at Peoples Natural Gas, Wilhelm Foundry, Wilhelmson Engineering, Beem Manufacturing and Morton's Food, all in Webster City. In recent years, he owned and operated his own salvage company, east of Eagle Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Marie of Eagle Grove; sons, Donald of Goldfield, Ronald of Webster City and Mike of Eagle Grove, daughter Rita Markwardt of Story City; brothers, Dean and Melvin, both of Webster City, Harold of Carroll, Gary of Riley, Kan.; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emil, Raynor and Robert; and sisters, Dorothy Connors and Norma Capelo.

He was a member of the Ban de La Roche in Woolstock.
