Darwin D. Ferguson, 72, a longtime Webster City businessman, died this morning, Thursday, April 18 at the Hamilton County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Rev. Ward Malloy officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Center Cemetery southeast of Yale. Flag-folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191 of Webster City. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home is after 5 p.m. tonight until 8 a.m. Saturday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Darwin Dean Ferguson, son of Roy and Cora (Duncan) Ferguson, was born April 8, 1919 on a farm near Bagley. He was educated in Bagley, Yale and Panora, and graduated from Panora High School in 1937. Starting in 1941, he served with Co. E. 133rd Infantry, 34th Division originating in Webster City, for four years in the European Theater. He was instrumental in organizing the annual Co. E reunion since 1949.

He married Ruby McClatchey in April 1947 in Nashua. The couple farmed near Bagley. Mr. Ferguson also operated a feed store in Yale. They later moved to Britt, where he was employed with the Ralston Purina Company as a district sales manager. He was also a partner in a hog feeding business in Britt. For nearly 25 years, he was a real estate broker in the Webster City area, and owned Midland Realty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 1971.

In September 1973, he married Vivian Forrester in Webster City. He continued working as a real estate broker, retiring in 1981.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian, Webster City; three sons, Jim Ferguson, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Tom Ferguson, Chicago, Ill.; and Joe Ferguson, Webster City; a step-daughter, Linda (Mrs. Dennis) Youlden, Minneiska, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Lois (Mrs. Romayne) Saemisch, Bagley.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.

Mr. Ferguson was a member of the Congregational UCC in Webster City, was a former Za-Ga-Zig member in Des Moines; was a former Elks Club member in Webster City; and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Mason Temple, V.F.W. and American Legion Post 191.
