George Brownfield, 79, Webster City, died Nov. 6, 1996 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Foster Funeral Home, with Richard Laird officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 191. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Friday until the time of service.

George G. Brownfield, son of William and Sina Smith Brownfield, was born Jan. 1, 1917 on a farm near Kamrar. He was educated in Kamrar and California schools. From 1942 to 1946, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre of Action as a plane mechanic. On Jan. 11, 1947 he married Isabelle Butler in Omaha, Neb. The couple resided in Webster City. He had been employed at Leo Johnson Dodge, Cashway Lumber, Zitterall-Mills, Mohr Masonry of Fort Dodge and Woodruff-Evans of Fort Dodge. He retired in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Isabelle; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Ken Nelson, Duncombe, Jan and Dan Hilpipre, Webster City; son, Lanny Brownfield, Mingo; grandchildren, Chris and Wade Nelson, Chad, Troy and Brandon Hilpipre, Jeremy and Jennifer Brownfield; great-grandchildren, Sara and Holly Nelson; sisters, Muriel Stark, San Diego, Calif., Sally LaFraigola, Vista, Calif., LaVonne Carlson, Pico Rivera, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Lynn Brownfield, daughter, Sharon Kay Interrante; stepfather, Grover Eyler; brothers, Estelle, Earl, Willis, Vernon, Emory and Lowie Brownfield; sisters, Arvada Willison and Anneva Waerenborg.

Mr. Brownfield was a member of the American Legion Post No. 191 of Webster City.
