Ed Oard, age 83, of Webster City, IA, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006 at the Calvin Community Nursing Home in Des Moines, IA.

Ed was born on April 24, 1922 in Williamsburg, MO the son of William Henry and Lutitia Gosney Oard.

On January 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Doris Beckett in Mexico, MO. She preceded him in death on February 7, 1970.

Ed is survived by two daughters: Karen Gaddis and her husband Bruce of Ankeny, IA and Susan Beckett and her husband, Frank DeRosa of Bellport, NY; five grandchildren: Angela Freeman and her husband Josh of Ankeny, IA, Samantha Gaddis of Ankeny, IA, Gabrielle Hathaway and her husband, Tom Landon of Wellfleet, MA, Jessie Beckett-McWalter of San Francisco, CA and William DeRosa of Califon, NH; seven great-grandchildren: Michael Ballard of Ankeny, IA, Elijah Ellis-Hathaway, Toby Ellis, Hannah Ellis, Tess Landon, Katarina Landon and Josephine Landon all of Wellfleet, MA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers and one sister.

Ed graduated from Shelbina High School in 1941. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge, among other decorations. Ed enjoyed ham radio, cross-country skiing and bicycle riding including nine trips across the state of Iowa as part of RAGBRAI.
