Ronald Dean Jacobson, 94, of Story City, Iowa, passed away on April 1, 2023 at the Households of Bethany in Story City.

Ron was born on September 24, 1928 to Archie and Grace Jacobson at their home in Hamilton County, Iowa. He grew up on a farm east of Randall, Iowa. He attended the Scott Township School and graduated from Randall High School. He attended St. Olaf College for one year. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.

On September 4, 1955 he married Louise "Gus" Gustin at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska. After marriage, they lived west of Randall, Iowa, where they lived until moving to the family farm east of Randall. To this marriage, three children were born: Shauna Jacobson of Ames, Iowa, Becky (Gary) Lorenz of Ankeny, Iowa, and Kevin (Susan) Jacobson of Jewell, Iowa. Ron was much loved by his grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Van Sloten, Christopher (Ashley) Lorenz, Stacy (Ryan) Herndon, Stephanie (James) Chance, Chelsie (Jacob Schuler) Jacobson and Tiffany (Ryan Nielsen) Jacobson. Also left to cherish his memory are eight great-grandchildren, Landon, Lyla, Hadley, Stella, Ava, Alyssa, Wynne and Everett.

Ron worked the family Century Farm, where he also raised turkeys. He started mink ranching, and added fox later on. Ron was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. Opening day of pheasant hunting was celebrated as a holiday in the Jacobson family, where they welcomed family and friends for hunting and Gus' caramel rolls. Ron liked to garden and was especially proud of his strawberries. Ron and Gus enjoyed breakfasts at local venues and exploring parks, always on the lookout for cans to recycle. They spent many hours at the Bertha Bartlett Library, Ron was a proud member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, games and spending time visiting with family, neighbors, friends and strangers - who soon became friends.

Ron is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law Raymond Gustin of Hickman, Nebraska, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Fred and Connie Gustin of Hickman, Nebraska and sister-in-law Sharon Dahl of St. Paul, Nebraska.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise, brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Sandra Jacobson, infant brother Marvin, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Shirley Gustin, brother-in-law Denis Dahl, nephew, Doug Jacobson and nephew Jerry Gustin.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Households of Bethany, Charlene's Place and Suncrest Hospice for their loving care of Ron.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the Households of Bethany Chapel, 212 Lafayette Ave., Story City. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Elim Lutheran Church, 350 4th Street, Randall. Burial will be in the Mamrelund Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron's name may be directed to Elim Lutheran Church or the Doug "Jake" Jacobson Wildlife Fund.
