Ruth Erbes, age 94, formerly of Ellsworth, IA, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Home in Estherville, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 7th, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Burial will be in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, IA.

Ruth Darlene Erbes, daughter of Harry and Mabel (Olson) Hanson, was born on July 10, 1928 outside Ellsworth, Iowa. Ruth was baptized into the Christian faith (1928) and confirmed (1943) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

Ruth grew up in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1946. During her high school years, she participated in women's basketball, choir and the drama program. On November 23, 1947 she married Dean Erbes at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Ruth was a homemaker until 1972 when she took a position as a clerk at the pharmacy in Jewell, Iowa. After about two years as a clerk, she completed training in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ruth put that training to good use at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa. She retired from Bethany Manor in 1993. In 2017, she relocated to Estherville, Iowa and was a very beloved resident at the Good Samaritan nursing home. Ruth was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. She loved singing, cooking, knitting, crocheting, following her children's sport activities and spending as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren. Ruth was an avid card player, especially the game 500.

Ruth is survived by 4 children, Donna Murphy (Bob) of Cresco, Dr. Richard Erbes (Leane) of Estherville, Sandy Barkema (Steve Hetland) of Ellsworth, and Linda Hunter (Kevin Van Otterloo) of Eagle Grove; 12 grandchildren, Troy Murphy (Melinda), Tami Foster (Brady), Lisa Scholz (Mark), Sarah Erbes, Carrie Plaine (Andrew), Taylor Olson, Trevor Olson (Brit), Tucker Olson, Lindsay Carrow (Chris), Courtney Mason, Matt Hunter (Melanie), and Joe Hunter (Kristin); 25 great grandchildren, Tyler, Cody, Mikaela, Trista, Kyleigh, Brooklyn, Amelia, Caden, Oliver, Madden, Brooks, Thor, Alana, Theodore James, Brody, Cooper, Jaxon, Reid, Max, Gavin, Kinley, Olivia, Ava, Derek, Andrew and one more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, and 8 siblings.
