Kenneth Owen Root, son of Fred and Grace Hess Root, was born March 31, 1925 at Ruthven,Iowa. He attended Ruthven Public School, where he graduated. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. On September 21, 1947,he married Lois Lee Christensen at Ruthven. He farmed for 12 years near Terrill then he was a meat and food inspector for the State of Iowa, at Fort Dodge and Cherokee, before retiring in 1987. On July 2, 1968, he married Violet Jensen at Ruthven. Ken had resided at Southfield assisted living for the past five years.

Kenneth is survived by children/step-children, Dennis and Mary Root of Lakefield, MN; Bill and Ruth Ann Griffin of Ely, MN; Diane and Craig Wagner of Fairfield,IA; Tom and Terri Griffin, Omaha, NE; Belinda and Mike Bertolozzi of Las Vegas, NV; Dave and Sidra Root of Webster City, IA; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jean Romine; son, Dave Griffin; granddaughter, Heather Bertolozzi; brothers, Raymond and Donald Root.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 191. He had a superb talent with woodworking skills and enjoyed the creativity of painting.
