Howard Lake, 82, of Webster City, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at the Hamilton Hospital at Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery north of Webster City. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Howard Kenneth Lake, son of Charley and Oca Katsch Lake, was born April 18, 1921 on a farm in Ellis Township of Hardin County. He attended the Owasa Public School. On August 24, 1941 he married Marcelyn Jane Hudson at Albany, Mo. The couple resided at Des Moines where he worked at the A & P Grocery. They moved to Webster City where he started with Brin's Furniture. During W.W. II he served with the U.S. Army Infantry with the Occupational Forces in the Pacific Theatre of Action. Following his discharge he drove a gravel truck for Virgil Littschwater Construction at Buckeye. He had farmed in Ellis Township, worked at Beam Manufacturing (Electrolux), worked at the Flugstad Elevator, managed the Lehigh Elevator and worked at the Raven Lumber and Sawmill. He returned to Brin's Furniture where he worked for several years. Marcelyn died April 21, 1979. He then worked for Gambles and Von Feldt Furniture until his retirement.

Mr. Lake is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Elba and Jean Lake, Andrew and Pat Lake, all of Fort Dodge; Kenneth Lake of Webster City; daughters and son-in-law, Jane Felts, Lexie and Michael Spencer, all of Webster City; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; special friend, Norma Lake of Webster City; sisters, Letha Hanson of Hubbard; Arleta Evans of Dows; Lois Terry of Colorado Springs, Co.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Emery Lake and sister, Gail Brightwell.

He was a former member of the Webster City Moose and the American Legion Post #191.
