Shirley E. Miller, Des Moines, died Dec. 21, 2003 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of Nazareth in Des Moines. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Cemetery in Webster City.

Shirley was born in Webster City and had lived in Des Moines the past 45 years. She was a Personnel Director for Job Service and was a certified genealogist. She was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth and was awarded the St. Ann Award from the Archdiocese of Dubuque. She served as the past president of the Iowa Genealogical Society and for the Pioneer Sons and Daughters, where she was currently the editor of their newsletter. She will be missed.

She is survived by her goddaughter, Joy Bridenstine of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today at the Brooks Funeral Care, Clive, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Find A Grave Info - Shirley E. Miller was born in Webster City, Iowa- The daughter of Irene [Long] and Edgar Miller. She had a brother, Vernon, a sister Marguerite, and a stillborn baby sister. She had her own radio show out of Webster City. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Her nieces loved her "silver dollar pancakes" with honey from Joe the beeman. Shirley was never married and had no children- but she had 3 nieces- Cris (Miller) Larson, Cathy (Miller) Schumacher, and Cindy (Miller) Schnell, and one nephew, Dan Bromley. After she retired she became a genealogist and found where her family came from in Ireland and Scotland- without her we would have never known where we came from and will be forever grateful to her.
