Wayne O. Calkins, 79, of Webster City, died Sunday, November 30, 2003 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Tiffany officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Wayne Oliver Calkins, son of Charles and Susan Brown Calkins, was born September 16, 1924 at Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City Schools. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Army. On Feb. 21, 1945 he married Barbara Mary Wigmann at Aplington, Ia. The couple farmed near Webster City for several years. He worked in security for Morton Frozen Foods for 2 years. In the early 60's, he worked for Nissen's in sanitation and the smoke room, retiring in 1986. Mrs. Calkins died Sept. 2, 1989.

Mr. Calkins is survived by son, Bill Calkins of Webster City; granddaughter Jamie Calkins of Dubuque, great-grandchildren, Jenifer, Cassandra and Tamra Elsberry; brother and sister-in-law, Vilo and Dorothy Calkins of Torrance, Ca.; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Don Roads of Des Moines.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by son, Galyn Calkins in 1968, brother John Calkins and a sister.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Webster City Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #191.
