Betty J. Mickelson, 94, of Duncombe, died Monday, February 20, 2023, at Van Diest Medical Center.

A service honoring Betty’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. Interment will follow in Washington Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Washington Lutheran Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Betty is survived by her children, Brian (Debbie) Mickelson, Vincent, Galene (George) Groves, Kamrar, Gary Mickelson, Palm Desert, Calif., Debbie (Kenyon) Hinrichs, Webster City; her grandchildren, Dani (Matt) Dunham, Nevada, Melanie (Matt) Hunter, Peoria, Ariz., Nicole (Jason) Hoag, Humboldt, April (Jon) Mason, Eagle Grove, Chad (Brad) Mickelson, Jacksonville, Fla., Nick (Jane) Groves, Cedar Rapids, and Samantha (Dan) Dewitt, Gladbrook; great grandchildren, Maddie and DJ Dunham, Allison and Cameron Hoag, Chase, Caden and Cohen Mason, Beau, Codi and Cade DeWitt, Stetson, Eden and Magnolia Groves, and Olivia and Ava Hunter; along with numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Donald, her brothers, Merlin and Donald Koester, her brothers-in-law, Selmer, Robert, Richard, Leonard and Paul Mickelson, her sisters-in-law, Florence Koester, Leslie Koester and Norma Mickelson, her mother-in-law Serena Mickelson and father-in-law Clifford Mickelson, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Betty Jean Koester, the daughter of Fred and Muriel (Stephenson) Koester, was born July 12, 1928, in Cheyenne, Wyo. She had two brothers, Merlin and Donald. When she was 12 and a half, they moved to Iowa. She graduated from Duncombe High School in 1945. On May 23, 1948, she married Donald Mickelson, and they lived on a farm north of Duncombe. She was a member of Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe and served in several areas of the church including keeping track of Sunday School attendance for 45 years.
