Ellen Ahrens, 86, of Stratford, Iowa, died Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Windsor Manor in Webster City, Iowa, where she had been a resident for 2 years. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, from 4 to 6 PM at Athens Woods Fellowship Hall in Stratford, Iowa.

Ellen Lucille Lynch, daughter of Floyd and Freda (Keeling) Lynch, was born August 12, 1936, in Veedersburg, Indiana. She attended many schools before graduating from Corpus Christi, Texas. On November 10, 1955, she married Dean Ahrens in Gibson City, Illinois. She resided in Stratford most of their married life. Ellen had many jobs during her lifetime. She worked as a dental assistant, worked at Myrtle’s Flower Shop and worked at two of the local grocery stores in Stratford.

Ellen’s hobbies included gardening, quilting, cooking, reading, and volunteering at the Stratford school. Ellen attended clown school and enjoyed many parades and events as her character known as Hugabunch. Ellen was an active member of the Stratford Lutheran Church and the Stratford American Legion Auxiliary.

Ellen is survived by daughters Jenifer (Lowell) Crim of Stratford, Julie Echelberger of Greeley, Colorado, son Brett (Kristi) Ahrens of Stratford; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Ann (Gene) Otte of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law JoAnn Lynch of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, her parents, brother Larry and grandson Alex.

A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford, Iowa. Iowa Cremation has assisted the family with arrangements.
