Thomas Anderson, age 52, formerly of Ellsworth, IA passed away Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames, IA.

Thomas (Tom) Anderson, age 52, passed away peacefully at MGMC Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on December 2, 2022.

Tom was born September 18, 1970 in Ames, Iowa to Raymond and Margaret [Tollakson] Anderson. He lived with his parents and brothers in Ellsworth, Iowa attending Wilson-Beardshear in Ames and graduating from Ames High School in 1992.

Growing up Tom enjoyed bowling, camping, attending the Iowa State Fair, anything Dukes of Hazard, the movie Grease, listening to all kinds of music at full blast, Barbies, eating pizza and drinking Mountain Dew.

He loved to swim and bike all over town. Tom didn’t know a stranger and never shied away from a pretty lady! He could often be found "helping" customers at A&M Market. He participated in Special Olympics for many years and received numerous ribbons and medals.

Tom moved to Ames after graduation becoming a member of the Mainstream Living Community. This allowed him to be involved in the Mainstream projects from Hach Chemical and Sunstrand at their workshop. He also worked at Aunt Maudes and JCPenny. In his “retirement years” Tom enjoyed puzzles, movies and outings with his housemates and family!

Tom was able to thrive and live a full life thanks to the home and loving care Mainstream and their staff provided as well as the support from his family, friends and the community.

Those thankful for sharing his amazing life include brothers Dennis (Jodee) of Ankeny and Danny (Marcia) of Ellsworth, nieces Kayla, Megan (Zach), and Ashley (Jesse), nephew Tyler as well as 5 great nieces and 3 great nephews.

Tom was greeted in heaven by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friend Merle Marcus.
