Robert Lee Hagen, age 71, of Jewell, IA passed away peacefully at home with his family on November 10th, 2022.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Jewell Fire Station. This afternoon will consist of the family receiving friends from 1-3 p.m. and a time of honor, reflection and remembrance will be held at 3pm with Pastor Todd Edeker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Jewell Fire and Rescue.

Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe is caring for Bob and his family.

Bob was born November 30th, 1950, in Eldora, IA to Thomas and Agnes (Harpestad) Hagen. He grew up on a farm outside New Providence, IA, until moving to a farm between Hubbard and Radcliffe in high school. Bob graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1970. He was united in marriage to Ellen Claire Dodds of Iowa Falls, IA, on January 26th, 1974, at Claremont, MN. In 1978, they welcomed twin daughters Sarah and Nicki into their lives.

Bob worked at Eller Feed Lots for 18 years and then farmed independently for two years while simultaneously working for Mannetter Welding in Hubbard, IA. In 1989 Bob purchased the welding shop in Jewell, IA, owning and operating the business as Hagen Welding for 27 years; and in 1990 he began 26 years of dedicated service to Jewell Fire & Rescue where he was an enthusiastic trainer of new firefighters, teaching firefighting skills, and vehicle extrication.

Throughout his life, Bob was involved in many other organizations, including Jewell Lions Club, Pine Lake Saddle Club, Radcliffe Jaycees, Zion UCC in Hubbard, Jewell UCC, and Iowa Blacksmith and Weldor’s Association. He loved horseback trail riding, fighting fires, creating metal art, and camping with friends and family.

Bob and Ellen retired in December of 2016 to enjoy cruising and family travel.

Those thankful for sharing in his life and smile include his wife Ellen of Jewell, IA, two daughters Sarah (Joseph) Green of Brooklyn Park, MN and Nicki (Brian) Inman of Wexford, PA, two grandchildren Kate and Zach Green, sister Sharon (Jim) of Ankeny, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
