Duane Engelby, 93, of Stanhope, died Friday, April 8, 2022 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope. Burial was in the Lawn Hill Cemetery.

Duane Cottington Engelby, son of Joseph and Hope (Cottington) Engelby, was born November 5, 1928 on a farm NW of Stanhope. He graduated from Stanhope High School in 1946 and attended Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI). On May 22, 1949, Duane was united in marriage to Norma Jane Wing at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope. Duane was a lifelong farmer in the Stanhope area. Along with being an active member at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, he served on the boards of the Stanhope and Kamrar Cooperative Telephone Exchange and the Stanhope Farmer's Coop. He was a good athlete in many different sports as well as an avid sports fan cheering on the Chicago Cubs, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones. Duane loved to sing in the church choir and with the "Four Flats" quartet and also enjoyed participating in square dancing with Norma.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Norma; daughters, Amy (Gail) Vaubel, Nancy (Brian) Holt, Sally Evans; grandsons, Aaron (Angie) Vaubel, David (Kate) Vaubel, Josh Van De Pol, Tony (Amber) Van De Pol, Erik (Ryan) Holt, Evan (Sarah) Holt; great-grandchildren, Caylie and Krista Vaubel, Prestin and Riah Van De Pol, Marissa Miller, Kanon, Nash and Ike Holt, Ezekiel Holt; sisters, Doris Rohling of Arizona and Mary Jo Johnson of Stratford, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his brothers, Dale and Ricki Engelby and brother-in-law Dennis Wing.

Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City is entrusted with arrangements.
