Virgil Robert Teigland, 94, died on February 26, 2022 at Plum Ridge Care Center in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

He was born on October 30, 1927 in Randall, Iowa to George and Frances (Borwick) Teigland. After graduating from Randall High School in 1945, he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946. Receiving a direct commission, he served for 30 years through Post WWII, Korean and Vietnam eras in various U.S., European, Taiwan and Vietnam postings. As a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1968, his military service culminated in consecutive assignments as the Adjutant General, 4th Armored Division, VII Corps and the Theater Army Support Command in Europe. He retired from the military as a full Colonel in 1976. For the next ten years he worked under contract with the Vinnell Corporation as their Director of Personnel and Administration in Saudi Arabia for the military program to organize and train the Saudi Arabian National Guard.

Blessed with family he dearly loved, Virgil always regretted the little time he was able to spend with them due to the demand of his military duties and extended separations. However, long life in retirement gave him the joy of living near his local family or traveling afar for visits with his loved ones overseas.

Virgil was predeceased by his parents, infant sister, Ethel Mae, and one great grandson. He is survived by Renate Rexroth, former wife and mother of his children: Martin (Sebine) Teigland, Dr. Laura von Harling, Anita Hartman, Paul (Julie) Teigland and Louise (Gene) Clare (all residing in Germany), thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother David (Donna) Teigland (Ankeny, IA) and their family. He is also survived by his wife and loving companion of 30 years, JoAnn (Olson, Anderson) Teigland of Klamath Falls, OR., her children Eric Anderson (Klamath Falls, OR), Rev. Karl (Hannah) Anderson (Apple Valley, MN), Kristen (Rev. James) Braun (Harwich, MA), and six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Klamath Falls, OR.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Christ Lutheran Church, 127 N. Spring St., Klamath Falls, OR 97601.
