Dennis Lynn Thompson, son of Milford and Margaret Anderson Thompson, was born January 25, 1948 in Webster City. He graduated from South Hamilton in 1966, and attended Ellsworth Community College and Iowa State University. On August 25, 1968 Denny was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Pat Hunter at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Jewell. For 43 years, Denny was employed at the local grain elevators in Stanhope, Jewell and Randall. He loved his job and the daily interactions with the farmers. After retirement, he continued to stay involved in farming by always lending a hand during spring and fall harvest. Throughout his life, when Denny found free time, he'd find a body of water and cast out a line. Whether it was taking his boys to the gravel pit or annual trips to Canada with friends, he loved his time with a fishing pole in hand. His greatest enjoyment of all was time spent with his family and he was especially proud of his boys and grandsons.

He is survived by his spouse of 54 years, Pat of Ames; sons, Mark (Kelly) Thompson of Chicago, IL, Brian (Pauley) Thompson of Maple Grove, MN; grandsons, Bryce and Dane Thompson; mother, Margaret Thompson of Story City; brother, Bruce (Lori) Thompson of Jewell; sister-in-law, Linda Thompson of Story City; brother-in-law, Bob (Joan) Hunter of Texas and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Milford; brothers, Terry Thompson and Doug Thompson; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Lila Hunter.
