Harriet Erickson, age 93, of Jewell, IA, died early Saturday morning at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 15 at 10:30 am at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial took place in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Harriet Carrie (Halvorson) Erickson was born on December 31, 1929 near Radcliffe, Iowa. She was the youngest of three children born to Harry and Carrie (Friest) Halvorson.

Harriet grew up in the Radcliffe area. She began her education in the rural school and graduated from Radcliffe High School with the Class of 1947. She received her Normal Training at the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught country school for two years.

On June 3, 1949, Harriet was united in marriage to Robert Erickson. She and Robert owned the Gamble Store in Jewell for many years. She worked at the Ames Daily Tribune for 27 years as a bookkeeper and then office manager.

After retiring Harriet wintered in Arizona for several years. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golfing. Harriet was known for knitting mittens for school children, and her State Fair Blue Ribbon divinity. Her passion was working in her yard and on her farm. Harriet retained her motorcycle endorsement on her drivers license until her death.

Harriet passed away suddenly at the Israel Family Hospice House early morning on Saturday, February 11, 2023 after a very short stay.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her daughter Linda Gevock of Fairfield; son Ted (Dr. Beth) Erickson of Des Moines; grandson Hans Erickson of Panora; granddaughter Dr. Ashley (Paul) Augspurger of Bondurant; along with other relatives and friends.

Harried was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, daughter Cathy, brother Archie Halvorson, sister Lucille Brinton and son-in-law Jim Gevock.

Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell.
