Gerald Stein, 75, of Clarion, formerly of Webster City, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Foster Chapel in Webster City with the Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. Burial followed the service in the Graceland Cemetery [Webster City]. Graveside military rites were conducted by the American Legion Post #191.

Gerald Edward Stein was born May 24, 1929, on a farm west of Webster City in Freedom Township, the son of Frank and Isabelle (Wade) Stein. He graduated from Lincoln High School at Webster City in 1947. He started working at Electrolux in 1947. He served with the U.S. Army as a machinist from 1951 to 1953 at Japan and the Aberdeen Proving Grounds at Maryland during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he returned to Electrolux where he worked until his retirement in 1993. His job description was a tool and die maker, his last five years of employment, he served as foreman of the tool and die department. He moved to the USA Health Care in Clarion in July of 2004. He was a member of the Church of Christ, VFW American Legion Post 191, was an avid golfer and bowler, and enjoyed attending area dances.

He is survived by a step-daughter, Susan Kemnitz, and her husband, Dan, of Eagle Grove; three step-grandchildren Tana, Kade, and Daniel Jr. Kemnitz; a brother, Dean Stein, of Clarion; a sister Linda Wiggins and her husband, Ted, of Round Rock, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Frances McBee and Barbara Jensen, a brother, Franklin Stein, a niece, and two nephews.

The Foster Funeral Home of Webster City was in charge of the arrangements.
