Doyle D. Kelso, 71, Ames, a former Williams resident, died Sept. 16 at his home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Visitation at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames will be held Wednesday afternoon and evening, with the family receiving friends from 7-8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Daycare or Hospice of Ames.

Doyle D. Kelso, son of Zenas and Nancy (Brown) Kelso, was born June 4, 1920 in Galva, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Williams and attended technical school in Kansas City, Mo.

He married Lenore Westwick on June 10, 1944 at Camp Gruber in Muskogee, Okla. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands and in Europe, and received the Purple Heart.

He was a radio engineer in Waterloo and came to Ames in 1948. He built KASI radio, where he was chief engineer for several years. He was the owner of Kelso Radio and T.V. for 25 years, and retired in 1974.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore, Ames; a son, Dennis D. Kelso, Juneau, Alaska, a daughter, Sherilyn Hitch, Iowa Falls; a brother, Marion Kelso, Iowa Falls, and two grandchildren, Brandon and Lindsay Hitch, Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Mr. Kelso was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 674, the D.A.V. and was a past member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
