John A. Peters, 100, Webster City, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at his home. His wishes were to be cremated. There will be no services. Serving the family is the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Madge; daughter, Carol Main and husband Roger of Webster City; grandchildren, Gary and wife Carry of Denver, Colo., and Julie Petty and her husband Scott of Spirit Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Helena Neumann Peters and a brother, Albert.

John Alexander Peters was born on Jan. 27, 1904 in Libau, Latvia in Europe. In 1908, he moved with his family to the United States where they made their home in Chicago. He attended schools there and then graduated from the University of Chicago. John moved to Des Moines in 1934. On June 2, 1942 he married Madge Elswick and the couple established their home in Des Moines. He was the state Director of Unemployment Insurance for many years. Following his retirement in 1980, the couple moved to Webster City.
