Robert L. Rasmussen, 73, of Mesa, Arizona, a former Webster City resident, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at the Banner Baywood Medical Center at Mesa of chronic myelogenous leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Tiffany officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Robert Lee Rasmussen, son of Cyrus and Edna Birkland Rasmussen, was born April 20, 1931 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He received his education at Scottland, South Dakota, graduating in 1949. He worked for Convair Aircraft in aircraft construction at San Diego, Ca. On July 25, 1959, he married Marlene Marie Marsh at San Diego. He attended Southern State Teachers College at Springfield, S.D. and taught chemistry and physics at Jewell, Waukon, Belle Plaine and Prairie City. They moved to Webster City in 1973. He was employed at Webster City Products (Electrolux) in quality control. In 1976, he started Rasmussen Paint Contracting and retired in 1996.

Mr. Rasmussen is survived by his wife, Marlene; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Joan Rasmussen in the U.S. Army at MacDill Air Force Base at Tampa, Fl., grandchildren, Michael and Anastasia Rasmussen; step-grandchildren, Amanda Pearson and Sarah Nolet; step-great grandchildren, Takoda Hoadley, sister, Mary Jo Zeeb of Sun City, Az.

He was preceded in death by a son, Neil Kevin Rasmussen in 1983 and his parents.

He was a member of the Victory Lutheran Church at Mesa, former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, S.W. Hackett Masonic Lodge and several woodcarving clubs in Mesa.
