WC Student Killed in Car Accident

A 17-year old Webster City High school student was killed Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident, east of Webster City.

Mindy Sue Myers, Lehigh, was eastbound on a gravel road just east of the Hamilton - Hardin county line and one mile north of Highway 20.

The accident occurred at about 10 a.m. when the vehicle went off on the south shoulder. Myers then probably over-corrected, lost control and the vehicle entered the north ditch. The vehicle rolled once, ejecting her from the auto and pinning her underneath, according to the Iowa Highway Patrol.

Myers was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt. Judging by the amount of damage to Myers 1987 Pontiac Grand Am, Trooper Pam Brockman said, wearing a seat belt would most likely have prevented the fatality.

The Hamilton and Hardin County sheriff's departments assisted in investigating the accident.

Myers was a senior at Webster City High School. Principal Dan Conrad said the school's newly formed Crisis Intervention Team was activated today to help students cope with the tragedy.

The team tries to foresee problems the students may have and provide ways for them to deal with the loss, according to Conrad.

The team consists of teaches, counselors, the school nurse, school administration and other outside professionals.

Myers, the daughter of Darle and Peggy Myers of rural Lehigh, was a high school football and wrestling cheerleader and involved in several other school activities. She was employed at Hy-Vee in Webster City.

Mindy Sue Myers, 17, rural Lehigh, died Sunday morning, Oct. 28, in a one-car accident. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church, Rev. Jennifer Edinger officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City is after 5 p.m. today until 8 a.m. Wednesday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Mindy Sue Myers, daughter of Darle and Peggy (Carlberg) Myers, was born Dec. 23, 1972 in Fort Dodge. She attended Stratford Community Schools and Webster City Junior High. She was currently a senior at Webster City High School.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Dan Myers; her grandparents, Clifford and Alice Myers, Webster City and Lois Carlberg, Stratford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother in infancy.

She was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church and was active in many school organizations.
