Rev. Douglas Anderson, 53, of Webster City, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Hamilton Hospital at Webster City, after a courageous year-long battle with leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Asbury United Methodist Church at Webster City, with Revs. Peter Peterson, Jerald Swanberg, Richard Speight and Dr. Gary Armstrong officiating. Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery at 4 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be at the church from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements were made by the Foster Funeral Home and Cremation Center at Webster City.

Douglas James Anderson, son of Walter and Dorothy Johnson Anderson, was born April 25, 1951 at Minneapolis, Mn. He received his education at New Hampton, graduating in 1969. He received a B.A. from Cornell College at Mt. Vernon in 1973. He received his Masters of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University at Dallas, Tx. in May of 1977. On June 30, 1984 he was married to Gayle Lynne Sjoblom at New Brighton, Mn.

During his pastoral ministry, Doug served First United Methodist Church at Boone, Riverside UMC at Fort Dodge, Grace UMC at Glenwood, Immanuel UMC at Des Moines, First UMC, Mason City and most recently appointed to Asbury UMC at Webster City. He had served as Chair of Membership Division of the Board of Ordained Ministry, Member of Board of Trustees for Cornell College, Chair of Mason City Ministerial Association and various other involvements.

Pastor Doug is survived by his loving wife Gayle, daughters Emily and Rachel Anderson of Webster City, sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen Anderson of New Hampton, Linda and Zip Zeimetz of Elma, Sue and Norm Pihale of Burnsville, Mn.; Nancy Anderson of Plymouth, Mn., several nieces and nephews, a great niece and many loving extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David.
