Rayner Nickles, 82, longtime resident of the Webster City-Woolstock area, died yesterday at the Zumbrota Community home at Zumbrota, Minn. where he had been residing the past five months.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Byron Surface officiating and with burial in the French cemetery near Woolstock.

John Rayner Nickles, son of J.L. and Sadie Frakes Nickles, was born Dec. 27, 1892 in Wall Lake township, where he was reared and educated. He was married Jan. 2, 1918 to Eva Caquelin and the couple made their home on a farm in Wall Lake township in Wright county. In the fall of 1968, they moved into Woolstock.

Mrs. Nickles preceded him in death in 1973, and he had spent the past nine months in Minnesota with his daughters.

He is survived by one son, Gerald Nickles of Woolstock; three daughters, Mrs. Orrin (Doris) Crouch of Mabel, Minn., Mrs. Helen Amdahl, Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Dennis (Marilyn) O'Brien of Mazeppa, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Gaster, Clarion, Mrs. Lottie Pettinger of Mason City, Mrs. Myrtle Bernard of Webster City, L.E. Nickles of Clarion and Wilbur Nickles of Warrensburg, Mo.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson, his parents, one brother and one sister.

He was a member of the Mulberry Center United Methodist Church.
