Herbert R. Brewer, 79, South Shore Drive, Eagle Lake, Edwardsburg, Mich., died Thursday, March 4 while a patient at Silverbook Manor, Niles, Mich., after an illness.

Herb was born Nov. 29, 1924 in Webster City, the son of Frank and Gladys (Jameson) Brewer, and had moved from Iowa as a heavy equipment operator with Maudlin Construction Company to help build the Indiana toll road. He later worked for South Bend Exterminators, and then had his own business in extermination.

Herb was married to Dorothy W. Hall, and they divorced in 1991. He is survived by three daughters, Joyce and Dale Westfall of Edwardsburg, Patty and Gary Potter of Elkhart, Ind., and Alice Jeanne and Reed Hammans of Ames. There is a son, Daniel and Cathy Brewer of Edwardsburg. There are 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild, a brother, Robert of Pine, Ariz., and a sister, Ruth Hinderks of Webster City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Ellen Peterson and Ruby Jean in infancy.

Herb was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the Pacific Theater and received one bronze star. He was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion and Edwardsburg VFW. He was a member of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club. Memorial donations may be made to the Edwardsburg American Legion.

Services were held Saturday, March 6 in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Klar, pastor of New Creation Fellowship, officiating. Burial was at Edwardsburg Cemetery, with graveside military rites by Edwardsburg American Legion and VFW.
