Dan Balsley, 58, Woolstock, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000 at the Hamilton Hospital. Mr. Balsley was cremated and memorial services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with Cindi O'Brien, ministry assistant, officiating. Burial was in the French Cemetery east of Woolstock with graveside services conducted by American Legion Post #533 of Woolstock.

Danny Lee Balsley, son of Claude and Ruth Kennedy Balsley, was born July 2, 1942 at Aitkin Village, Minn. In 1942, he moved with his parents to Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1969. He served with the U.S. Marines four years in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Following his discharge, he attended the California Highway Patrol Academy and served with the patrol for nine years. On Sept. 2, 1972 he married Correna White at Reno, Nev. They returned to Iowa, and he worked for Consolidated Freight. For the past 26 years, they have resided in Woolstock. He operated his own trucking business, worked for Heller Carbonics for seven years, then bought Clumer Electric in Woolstock, worked as an electrician and was in maintenance for Van Diest Supply. At the time of his death he was employed by [the newspaper is unreadable] and in maintenance.

Survivors are his wife, Correna; daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Jeff Holland, Riverview, Fla., Jennifer and Ron Estes of Windsor, Calif., grandson, Devin Nordin; brothers, Arnold Balsley, Webster City, Merlin Balsley, Waynesville, MO., and Harlan Balsley of Norwalk; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Balsley. He was a member of American Legion Post #533 of Woolstock.
