Martin Hartnett, 91, Webster City, died Saturday, August 12, 2000 at the Hamilton Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. John R. Flaherty officiating. A rosary service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday followed by a scripture service at the Foster Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the St. Thomas Aquinas School.

Martin Daniel Hartnett, son of Daniel and Nell McCormick Hartnett, was born Jan. 6, 1909 on a farm east of Gilmore City. He attended St. Johns School at Gilmore City, graduating in 1929. In 1934, he moved to Webster City and started working for Nissens. On May 1, 1935 he married Helen Hanrahan at Barnum. The couple resided in Webster City. He retired from Nissens in 1973.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Hartnett of Clear Lake, Tom and Edna Hartnett of Webster City, Darwin and Judy Hartnett of Webster City, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a sister, Bernadette Dower of Fonda, a brother, Thomas Hartnett of Framingham, Mass., several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Leona Vallene, brothers, John and Emmett Hartnett, daughters-in-law, Jan and Pam Hartnett.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas, Knights of Columbus and the birthday club.
